In Isabell K. Fearnsby's June solo show at Artisans Gallery downtown one will find paintings like “Shopper Corner After Sunset”and "Del Mar in the Rain," which seem to quietly transcend the canvas.

A strong contrast of light and shadow and the feeling of serenity that her work gives are the first things a viewer will notice in Isabell Fearnsby’s Contemporary Realist oil paintings. Upon closer viewing, one will see how Fearnsby applies generous slabs of texture and also thin transparent glazes. In her paintings one will find subtle grays supporting intense color, a balance of clarity and mystery.

“For me, painting is a process of seeing and feeling. As I work time seems to fall away. When I finish a piece, I feel like Ive been given a great gift.” That feeling comes though in Fearnsby’s paintings.

Isabell Fearnsby is inspired by John Singer Sargent, Edward Hopper, Van Morrison and holds a Masters in Fine Art from the Academy of Art University in San Francisco. She lives in Santa Cruz, California.
